Iranian acclaimed short film ‘Asho’ has won an award at the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) in Germany.

Directed by Jafar Najafi, the short documentary has succeeded to take home the Best International Short Film Award at the 34th edition of the German film event.

The film festival that was basically cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic did the selection of its winners online. In fact, the international jury panel of the event watched the works and then via a video conference, they reached a consensus over who deserve the three main awards.

According to the official website of FIFF, the three selected titles had a common underlying theme which was, “Youth as an agent of change and hope”.

Asho narrates the story of a very young peasant boy whose world does not get limited by his surroundings. He, who has to deal with his daily life, has a huge passion for filmmaking and cinema.

The short has already attended a number of international film events and won awards, including received a special mention at the 62nd edition of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film - DOK Leipzig in Germany.
